INAUGURATION FUNCTION OF TERNA MEDICAL COLLEGE MUHS UNESCO BIOETHICS UNIT

The inauguration of the Bioethics Unit of the International Network of the UNESCO Chair in Bioethics Haifa at Terna Medical College was held at Terna Auditorium on 18 Jan 2016.The inauguration was done by Dr.Russell Dsouza Head Asia Pacific Bioethics Program,UNESCO Chair in Bioethics,Melbourne Australia. Dr. Russell D’souza handed over the Writ to Dr. Ghorpade, confirming and approving the establishment of the Bioethics Unit of the UNESCO Chair Haifa. Certificates were distributed to all the steering committee members.

The inauguration was followed by a Seminar on “Bioethics in Medical and Health Science Education”. The speakers at the seminar were Dr. Subodh Dave, Dr. Russell D’Souza and Dr. Santosh Salagre.

Dr. Subodh Dave  spoke on “Biomedical Ethics: Learning the art of science through films”. He highlighted how teaching ethics through movie clippings made ethics education interesting.Dr. Russell D’ Souza spoke on Medical Education and the Ethics of caring from the student perspective. This was followed by a panel discussion on ”Ethics and Doctor-Patient relationship”. The panelists –Dr. Raju Lakshmana, Dr. Subodh Dave, and Dr. Avinash Desouza spoke from their experiences in clinical practice and some of the ways to handle a doctor patient interaction.
